An SSH server is a software program which uses the secure shell protocol to accept connections from remote computers. SFTP/SCP file transfers and remote terminal connections are popular use cases for an SSH server.
General[edit]
The command 'sshd -T grep macs' shows the supported MAC algorithms, and all of the above are included (plus a bunch of the MD5 and 96bit algorithms). If I add a 'macs' line to '/etc/ssh/sshdconfig' to include just the secure algorithms above (by default there is no 'macs' line added to sshdconfig), the clients can't connect to the ssh server; I never get a login prompt; it just immediately drops the. Supported MAC names are the following: hmac-md5; hmac-md5-96; hmac-sha1; hmac-sha1-96; [email protected]; [email protected]. In the FIPS mode, only hmac-sha1 is supported. Special values for this option are the following: Any: allows all the MAC values including none; AnyStd: allows only standard MACs and none; none: forbids any use of MACs.
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Preferences, click Sharing, then select Remote Login. Open the Remote Login pane of Sharing preferences for me. Select the Remote Login checkbox. Selecting Remote Login also enables the secure FTP (sftp) service. Specify which users can log in.
- Wine is one of the best method to run Bitvise SSH Client on Mac. With WineHQ app, you can run Bitvise SSH/SFTP client and server on Mac OS X, Linux, Android and other popular operating systems. To download wine app, simply visit their official download page and select the versions that’s applicable for your computer machine.

Platform[edit]
The operating systems or virtual machines the SSH servers are designed to run on without emulation; there are several possibilities:
- No indicates that it does not exist or was never released.
- Partial indicates that while it works, the server lacks important functionality compared to versions for other OSs but may still be under development.
- Beta indicates that while a version is fully functional and has been released, it is still in development (e.g. for stability).
- Yes indicates that it has been officially released in a fully functional, stable version.
- Dropped indicates that while the server works, new versions are no longer being released for the indicated OS; the number in parentheses is the last known stable version which was officially released for that OS.
- Included indicates that the server comes pre-packaged with or has been integrated into the operating system.
The list is not exhaustive, but rather reflects the most common platforms today.

- ^Lsh supports only one BSD platform officially, FreeBSD.[citation needed]
- ^Native OpenSSH for Windows 10 is an optional feature that can be installed. OpenSSH can be installed in windows from windows 10 version 1709 and up. The project is called Win32-OpenSSH (contains 64bit as well), hosted on GitHub.
- ^Most Linux distributions have OpenSSH as an official package, but a few do not.
- ^OpenSSH 3.4 was the first release included since AIX
- ^Only for jailbroken devices.
- ^OpenSSH server can be built with FIPS 140-2
